SwirlyMMS working settings iPhone v. 2.1 11/02/2008

so ive been working on this for the whole demo period and i finally figured it out. iphone version 2.1. heres the scoop if youre in the US:

my settings:

mmsc: mmsc.cingular.com
proxy: 066.209.011.032
image size: medium
useragent: Motorola_V360 (and im sure it doesnt make a difference)
everything else: blank

heres what i learned w/ at&t today after several phone calls w/ different reps. at&t has a totally different plan for the iphone than any other phone. its totally separate. i tested this out w/ my work at&t phone, which is the at&t tilt. the tilt has all similar plans as my iphone:

- unlimited text
- unlimited data
- whatever minute plan

when u get a plan for the iphone, mms is strictly out. no matter what the at&t rep says that they “activated” it, its all a BS story. i put the tilt’s sim card in and was able to send and receive mms.

so heres the scoop. at&t’s plans reflect the imei number to the phone. that number will change all the available plans for the particular phone. if the imei number at&t have on record show its an iphone, then the plans will match the separate iphone plan… no mms. so i decided to give them the imei number to the tilt to test this theory. i told them i changed phones.

they changed the imei number to the tilt’s but they have to adjust the plan because the imei number will not allow the iphone plan to work w/ it. so they made the changes. BAM! i had mms. both send and receive. but heres the kicker:

voicemail changed on me. i no longer had the iphone voicemail capability where i can see and select the voicemails i wanted to hear. its back to the standard “dial ur voicemail and go through the automated woman”. i tried to see if i could get the iphone voicemail back, but this feature is tied to the iphone plan. no way around it. its either mms or being able to select the voicemails u want to hear.

so as of at&t, they have the tilt’s imei on my file, yet i still use my iphone w/ the added mms capability. all i can say is, “awesome!” and well worth it!!!

keep this in mind. the imei from the phone cannot be detected by at&t. thats why they have to ask for it! and an easy way to find the imei: on ur phone, type in *#06# (astrix, pound, zero, six, pound)(u may have to press send)

hope this helps u guys out. :)

I really hope this works.. The only problem with it I have is this..

When I put my Iphone 2.1 3G sim card in another AT&T phone I can send/receive MMS messages. Granted I get an error the first 3 or 4 tries, but then it works and continues to work until I put my sim card back in the Iphone.

So if what you are saying is true, and my the lack of MMS ability is due to the Iphone plan, how is this possible? Also when I out the sim card from another AT&T phone in my Iphone, I can NOT send/receive MMS messages.

I am beginning to think that although the REP cannot access your IMEI number, their system still SEE’S it. Here is my proof.

Take the sim card your Iphone and out it in the another phone. Log onto your AT&T account and change the phone on the website from an Iphone to whatever. As long as that sim stays in the non Iphone phone the website will keep it at whatever you put.

Now put your sim back in the Iphone. Browse the net on the phone. Log back into AT&T and you will notice your phone on the account has been changed back to an Iphone.

How can this be if they system isn’t seeing your IMEI number?

BTW - I am not flaming you at all, just trying to understand all the variables so that I can make the correct changes myself. I am going to try to have them take the Iphone plan off my account and go to a regular unlimited media net package. Tell them I am using a different phone. Then try to use the iphone with SwirlyMMS and see if it works.

i did notice that when i changed my phone to the tilt on my at&t account that it did change back to the iphone. but at&t has on records that i still have a different phone. as of now, i still have no problems getting and sending mms on my iphone. ive mentioned in other forums that this works on my phone/plan/location. as u see, there r so many different variations of settings to get their iphone to work. this was just one that works for me. good luck and i hope u get urs to work! once u do, i think its so worth it!
